Virtual Server 2005 SP1 Beta and a whole lot more
Steve Ballmer today announced a bunch of stuff today related to Microsoft’s virtualization roadmap including:
- Virtual Server 2005 SP1 Beta
- Microsoft will be looking to 3rd parties to provide support for non Microsoft OSes under Virtual Server 2005
- A new MOM 2005 management pack for Virtual Server 2005
- Microsoft will license royalty-free the Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) file format
All of this is great news.
Some highlights in what’s new in VS2005 SP1 Beta:
- Support for Windows 2003 SP1 Guests (right now if you’ve tried I’m sure you’ve found performance suffers)
- Support for x64 hosts (guests will still be limited to 32-bit OSes)
End of Line.
